History
The King's Arms was built 1824 and first licensed 1830. It was sold in
1833 (the date could be 1855 - documents are unclear) by Thomas Cott, a
pawnbroker, to the then local brewers Charles Crawshay and John Youngs
for £545.00. The pub was known for a while as 'Charlie Drakes' during
the time of the popular landlord who was also Chairman of the Norwich & Norfolk
Licensed Victuallers Association in 1962.
More recently the pub was a Greene King house until 1998, when purchased
freehold by John Craft & Nicky Howard who first made a name for the
pub with its wide range of well kept cask ales.
Purchased by Batemans Brewery of Wainfleet, Lincolnshire in November 2004,
the King's Arms has gone from strength to strength and is listed in all
CAMRA Good Beer Guides this century! It also achieved 5th place in the Batemans
Floral Competition (Category B) in 2005. Current licensees, Richard Roberts
and Michaela Fry continue the tried and tested ethos of serving a good
quality product in a warm, friendly environment.
